Description
Second oldest burial ground in Boston. First founded in 1659 and named after a shoemaker who once owned the land. Thousands of artisans and craftspeople are buried there; in addition, thousands of African Americans who lived in a community
at the base of the hill are buried in unmarked graves. This burial ground is well
maintained by the city and all those buried are respectfully remembered through the care given to the sacred ground.
